This has always been one of my favorite steakhouses. Their warm rolls are a perfect way to start off the experience. I am in love with the local organic greens salad, but you really can't go wrong with any appetizer. I always go with the fillet, which comes with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The pastry shop, Kate, is phenomenal. She prepares the best banana fosters dessert. The service here is exceptional. I love the ambience. It's definitely a top spot in San Diego.

We went last night for my boyfriend's birthday and from start to finish, the experience was nothing less than exceptional. We got there a little early, so we sat at the bar and the drinks were great! Bartenders were friendly. The old fashioneds definitely set the tone for the rest of the night. As we got sat, the service was fantastic! Very quick and prompt. I had the best French onion soup I ever had. The scallops were also perfect, and everything came out hot which was great. The service was so good, that my boyfriend even dropped his spoon on the floor and it got replaced without question very promptly. I was sitting across from him and didn't even see it happen, so it was very impressive that the staff knew! The ambiance was warm and western cozy. Not too loud at all and we never had trouble hearing eachother throughout the night. We felt very taken care of and cannot wait til the next time we dine at Cowboy Star!

It's giving 5 stars. Absolutely amazing. I do not have ONE suggestion to add to this place. Get the bread!! Probably the fluffiest roll I've ever in my life. The butter that comes along with it OMG. Salad, YUM, love that they played it for both me and my husband to share. Ribeye-- FANTASTIC and the peppercorn sauce- I am obsessed. CHEF PLEASE TEACH ME. Drinks were so good and actually cheaper than most places these days. I WILL BE BACK SOON

Food was good. Prices were fair. Service was great. The ambience wasn't romantic, though. There was a baby crying in a booth, for example. Cowboy Star felt a bit too casual for celebrating and we feared we made a mistake as soon as we were seated. We were hoping for something closer to the ambience of Born and Raised which some of the Yelp pictures made seem was in the ballpark. The Waygu is worth it, but I recommend asking for an extra half serving--the 8oz wasn't enough for two people to share. Get the bordelaise ($5 is a lot for a sauce, I know). Skip the chimichurri sauce. Skip the bone marrow. Get the Mac and cheese.
